SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — The Seton Hall Pirates (12-17) secured a significant midweek win, defeating the Princeton Tigers (7-19) by a final score of 13-3. The Pirates delivered a true team victory, with both pitchers and hitters stepping up when it mattered.

Princeton struck first as starting pitcher Alex D'Ambrosio failed to record an out, walking the bases loaded and hitting a batter. The Tigers scored their first two runs on a fielding error by Cumiskey.

D'Ambrosio was then replaced by Anthony Ehly, who allowed an inherited run on a single by Lamson. Ehly limited the damage as the Pirates found themselves in an early 3-0 hole. D’Ambrosio recorded no outs, walked three, and allowed three unearned runs. The Wagner offense was shut down from there.

The Pirate offense responded as Brett Breenan got things started with a three-run home run with two outs, driving in Robbins and Krieger, who had previously reached base.

With the game tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the second inning, the Pirates continued to make a statement. Krieger broke the tie with an RBI single, scoring Soldra and Ali to give the Hall a 5-3 lead. Robbins added an RBI, and Frontera walked with the bases loaded to put Seton Hall ahead 7-3 after two innings.

Through the middle innings, the Pirates saw dominance on the mound, led by relievers Anthony Ehly and Patrick Benn. Coming in for D’Ambrosio, Ehly was lights out, going four scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. Benn was more of the same.

These two pitchers kept putting up zeros throughout the game, taking the pressure off the Pirate offense. The Seton Hall bullpen as a whole allowed no runs and issued just one walk. Wagner hitters had nothing going and looked overmatched at the plate.

Seton Hall's offense came back to life in the fifth inning when Ali’s groundout scored Cumsikey. The Pirate attack continued in the very next inning as Brennan’s double scored Robbins, with both players having big days.

Brett Breenan finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Robbins went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Robbins increased his average to an impressive .439, leading all BIG EAST hitters.

The Pirates finished the night with one big swing from Kevin Milewski, who crushed a grand slam into deep center field to give the Pirates a 13-3 lead. The blast put the mercy rule in effect, effectively ending the game.

Anthony Ehly picked up the win and moved to 2-2. The losing pitcher for Wagner was Jackson Baldrate.

The Pirates will be in action this weekend as they open conference play against rival St. John’s. First pitch is set for Friday at 3 p.m.
