Jacob Dar, the 6’7 senior from Omaha, Nebraska arrives in South Orange looking to rock the ship and contribute right away for the Pirates as someone who can help stretch defenses and make plays in transition.
Dar, transferred from Rice following last year, and in his 2024-25 season at Rice, he played 30 games, making 13 starts in roughly 19.8 minutes per game, and was a key part of the Owls' rotation as conference play continued to ramp up.
He shot 40.6% from the field and most notably, 37% from three-point range on about 3.3 attempts per game, which is something the Pirates absolutely needed to improve upon this offseason, ranking 316th among qualified NCAA Men’s basketball programs in three-point percentage last season.
In the BIG EAST, having someone as reliable as Dar from behind the arc will prove to be extremely beneficial to prevent sagging defenses.
At 6’7 with a 7’0 wingspan and tons of vertical pop, Dar can guard multiple positions on the perimeter. While his block and steal numbers have not jumped off the page, his length and mobility can help with rotation versatility and the Pirates' defensive schemes for the upcoming season. These tools can be key in signature moments, such as in a tournament game or a high-intensity BIG EAST matchup.
Coming off the bench or even rotating into the starting lineup, Dar can give the Pirates valuable minutes without a dramatic shift in momentum. He’s shown flashes of scoring in short bursts and bringing tenacity when the team needs it most in late-game situations where spacing is key.
In a new system under head coach Shaheen Holloway, Dar may be asked to expand upon his decision-making as far as cutting and reading closeouts go.
However, it will take time to build chemistry throughout the non-conference games, but the Pirates are getting a high-ceiling asset who already offers a great three-point stroke. With proper development, he can be a key glue piece who can contribute immediately for Seton Hall. Pirate nation will get to watch Dar debut when they take on Saint Peter’s at home on November 4th.
