STONY BROOK, N.Y.  - Seton Hall Pirates softball (13-10) dominated in a 12-3 victory in five innings today versus the Stony Brook Seawolves (5-14).

The Seawolves have been struggling this year in the circle and Seton Hall took full advantage today. Within the first three batters for Seton Hall, Katey Brennan homered, Taylor Hill got on base, and Kelsey Carr would clear the bases on a two-run home run,

Carr’s eighth of the year jumpstarted the Pirates to a 3-0 lead in the first three batters. However, the Seawolves would equalize in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs off of two doubles. But after first-inning struggles, pitcher Rachael Schumann would steel herself, only allowing two hits outside of the first and zero runs.

The same could not be said for the Seawolves. With the bases loaded in the top of the second and two outs, Olivia Gilbert would score two off a single, and Caroline Hobbes would get a single that scored one right after. One hit in the bottom of the second for the Seawolves left the score 6-3 favoring the Pirates going into the third.

The third was the only inning in which neither team scored a run, although Brennan would get a double.

In the fourth, the Pirates would run away with the game in large part due to a three-run homer scored by Hobbes. After, Naya Martinez would get a single to center and would advance on a sacrifice bunt and an error, before being brought in by Brennan on a fly-out RBI.

The Pirates would keep their foot on the gas though after snubbing the Seawolves due up. In the fifth, Carr and Hannah Alexander would get singles followed by an RBI single from Hobbes to score Carr and another RBI single this time from Jenna Blevins to score Alexander. The Seawolves would load the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Schumann would shut down their attempt at a comeback and end the game in five.

Schumann had a fair day in the circle with two strikeouts, six hits, and three earned runs. The Pirate defense was near perfection behind her giving up no errors.

The best day at the plate belongs to Katey Brennan, going three-for-three on her at bats including a home run, a double, and three RBIs. An honorable mention though to Caroline Hobbes, who went three for four with a home run herself and five RBIs. It was an all around great day for the home team at the plate.

The Pirates have a two-game doubleheader at home against Rider on the 19th, starting at 2 p.m., before going on the road for a three-game series at UConn.
