SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall Pirates’ (3-3-4) winless streak continued as they fell to the #21 nationally ranked Georgetown Hoyas (6-2-2) in their home conference opener by a score of 3-1. Despite Gianna Angelillo’s team-leading sixth goal, the offense could only string together two shots on goal and struggled throughout the match.

The Pirates started the first fifteen minutes of the game looking comfortable, displaying strong composure and looking relaxed against a difficult opponent. Their first chance came ten minutes into the match when the ball found Olivia Beauvois in the box, but she was unable to capitalize. Despite having no goal to show for it, the Pirates had numerous opportunities early.

About 25 minutes in, the ball found the feet of Gianna Angelillo, who then played a perfect through ball to Adria Kitzinger. Georgetown goalie Cara Martin left her box to make a huge save and keep the Pirates off the score sheet. This would be Seton Hall's best remaining chance of the half.

The latter portion of the first half was a much different story for the Pirates. The Hoyas started to gain more possession of the ball, and the game started to open up. Seton Hall defended multiple big chances, including a big save from Kleinsmith in the 28th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken just a few minutes later as Natalie Means opened the scoring on a powerful shot from her left foot in the 30th minute.  Just under three minutes later, Georgetown would score yet again, this time their team leading goalscorer, Maja Lardner. The Hoyas took a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Seton Hall again got off to a fast start, dominating the possession time. This was the best Seton Hall looked since early in the first half. The big moment came after a Georgetown handball in the box, and afterwards the penalty was given.

Gianna Angelillo stepped up and nailed it right down the middle, giving the Pirates life early in the second half. The goal was Angelillo’s sixth of the year, which ties her for third in the Big East Conference. The Louisville transfer is enjoying a breakout season for the Pirates.

The Pirates did not possess the momentum for much longer. Shay Montgomery found the back of the net soon after around the hour mark, extending the Hoya lead back to two. From that point forward, it was all Georgetown. The Hoyas dominated possession and had the rest of the chances in the game.

Up next for the Pirates is another conference home game this Saturday, the 27th against their rival St. John’s. Christian Oliveri and Chris Heite will have the call on WSOU.net.
