SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- Coming off a win in game one of the doubleheader, the Seton Hall Pirates (25-18) defeated the St. John’s Red Storm (33-11-1) 10-0 in five innings. It was a big day for the Pirates, who went 2-0 against one of the top teams in the BIG EAST.

Kyra Kreuscher got the start for Seton Hall, pitching a complete (shortened due to the mercy rule) game, with a solid seven strikeouts. Kreuscher, who has had her fair share of struggles this season, proved to have a comeback game against the tough Red Storm.

To start the scoring, Naya Martinez got on the board first with a sac fly in the first. It was certainly a change of pace from game one, where there was no scoring until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Then, with a few walks, Olivia Gilbert came to the plate with two runners on. In one swing of the bat, Gilbert went yard, extending the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the first.

The scoring did not stop there, though. It was a small ball for the most part, with Hobbes and Hill both having triples in the shorter game.

Hannah Alexander also had something to say about the hitting, adding a home run of her own to extend the lead to 8-0. With a couple more runs in the later innings, the Pirates’ win was cemented.

It was the first two innings to remember for Seton Hall, with explosive offense and exceptional pitching that appeared throughout the game.

Kelsey Carr also did not stay quiet in this one, with an RBI single of her own to add to her out-of-this-world stat sheet for this season. Carr pitched in a high-intensity game one and showed her endurance by being an impact hitter in game two.

St. John’s has been a powerhouse in the conference this season, but today was certainly not the case. The Red Storm’s pitching, which has statistically been solid this year, was lit up by the explosive Pirates' batting.

The Pirates have struggled in the past few games, but found their footing within a much-needed bounce-back day, with two wins showing how much heart this team has.

Carr continues to dominate in this exceptional season, and she will certainly be a key as the Pirates inch closer to the BIG EAST Tournament.

The Pirates will look to keep the momentum going, as they travel to Drexel for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
