OMAHA, Neb. -- The Seton Hall Pirates were unable to find the back of the net in a loss to the Creighton Blue Jays on Wednesday night by a score of 3-0.
In the 28th minute, Creighton’s Jalen Chaney would be given a red card and sent off
the pitch. Despite the player advantage, the Pirates were outshot as well as outscored.
Creighton would score twice before the end of the first half making it 2-0 going into
the break. Despite having two shots in the first half, neither of them would be on
target for the Pirates.
Seton Hall made a goalkeeping change going into the second half, swapping Kate Kleinsmith
for Avery Strohecker. Kleinsmith left the game with two goals allowed and one save.
Strohecker would fare slightly better, only allowing one goal and making two saves.
Seton Hall had a better offensive half in the second, but the Blue Jays would strike
again, extending their lead to 3-0 with 30 minutes remaining. The Pirates managed
to put two shots on goal in the second half, both of which were saved by Creighton’s
Alyssa Zalac.
The big struggle in generating offensive pressure was foul trouble for Seton Hall.
The Pirates committed eighteen fouls in the game to Creighton’s eight. While the Pirates
did not have a red card in the game, Shea Boyle, Sarah Mitchell, and Jordan Bello
all received yellow cards.
Additionally, Creighton was able to capitalize on the set pieces that Seton Hall handed
them. Two of the three goals came from the corner kick and the other came off of a
yellow card free kick. The Pirates had three chances at a corner kick in the tenth
minute and were unable to put up a shot.
Seton Hall will turn their attention to the upcoming Senior Night matchup against
the UConn Huskies at home on Saturday, October 25 at 6:00 P.M. where Nick DiBlasi
and Jake Marcial will be on the call.
The Pirates will then conclude the regular season against the Marquette Golden Eagles
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 1 at 8:00 P.M.
