Seton Hall Secures Much-Needed Victory Versus FDU as BIG EAST Play Nears

Having not secured a win in their previous four contests, the Seton Hall Pirates (2-1-3) grinded to a crucial 3-0 shutout of the FDU Knights (3-2-2) in their final game before the commencement of BIG EAST play.
While the first half for both teams were defined by missed opportunities and gritty defense, Seton Hall came rushing out of the gates into the second half and did not turn back as they were able to net three goals in the half alone.
The first half displayed aggressiveness from both Seton Hall and FDU which led to some early game fireworks, as both teams combined for 13 fouls in the first half alone. This aggressiveness stifled the offensive attacks of both squads, as the chaos occurring on the pitch caused multiple errors that prevented easy goals, especially for the Pirates.
Despite seven shots in the first half, the Pirates failed to find the back of the net, including two potential goals that fell victim to the crossbar as well as an overshoot from the Seton Hall offense.
The Hall were finally able to find their stride early in the second half, as transfer Joseph Min netted his first goal of the season off of a well-timed assist from Sam Bjork.
However, the Pirates certainly did not grow comfortable with their 1-0 lead, as in
the 65’ and 67’ minutes, Til Kauschke delivered two spectacular goals including one
off a penalty kick to extend the Pirates’ lead and slam the door shut on FDU’s hopes
of a comeback.
Despite taking a few brutal hits through the beginning of the season thus far, Seton
Hall goalkeeper Matias Molina remained strong and vigilant, not allowing any goals
throughout the full 90 minutes.
The entirety of Seton Hall’s defensive play was excellent, as FDU was visibly flustered and stagnant throughout tonight’s game, due to the Pirates defense not allowing the Knights to develop any sort of rhythm.
While the first few contests of Seton Hall’s young season saw the Pirates struggle to find their game and rhythm, particularly the second half of tonight’s contest displayed a blueprint for the Hall to follow as the season progresses. Timely scoring with an aggressive defense is a recipe for success Seton Hall should be sure to follow as the real tests of their season shall now commence.
Looking ahead, the Pirates will host the Providence Friars this Friday at home to kickoff their 2025 BIG EAST campaign, with AJ Rayer and Sean Casey on the call. Kickoff is set for 6:56 p.m.
