SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall Pirates (17-13) hosted the Wagner Seahawks (8-16) in a daytime doubleheader and outscored them 31-2 over the two games, as they ran away with the first game, 23-0, before taking care of business in game two, winning by a score of 8-2.

It was all Pirates from the beginning, as following a 1-2-3 inning tossed by Rachel Schumann, Seton Hall got their bats going as Katey Brennan took the first pitch she saw from Wagner starter Emma Crosby and put it over the center field fence.

Two batters later, Kelsey Carr hit a two-run HR, tallying her 11th home run of the season.  The Pirates would get through the entire batting order in the first, and by the time the inning concluded, they led 5-0.

Wagner manufactured some trouble for Schumann in the top of the second, with a single from Taylor Reynolds and a walk from Anna Burke. Yet the Pirates would escape the top half of the frame without any damage. In the bottom half, following consecutive two-out walks, Taylor Hill drove home one on an RBI double to left, giving Seton Hall a 6-0 lead after two innings.

The Seton Hall lead snowballed in the bottom half of the fourth, as Wagner could not seem to find the zone when Sophia Schmeglar came on in relief.  Emma Crosby came back in to finish out the game, but could not get the job done, resulting in Wagner choosing to go with position player Ripley Barry.  When the inning finally came to an end, the Pirates plated 15 runs in the frame and held a whopping 23-0 lead.

Schumann completed the shutout, finishing off a 23-0 rout of Wagner in the first game.  The Pirates broke multiple records in this contest, as their previous largest margin of victory was 17, and the most runs they scored in one game was 19.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in game two, as they took a 2-0 lead following an RBI single by Naya Martinez and an RBI walk from Taylor Hill.  However, Wagner finally showed some sign of life when they scored the first run of the day, cutting the lead in half.

After going scoreless in an inning for the first time in both games in the second frame, the Pirates got back on the board when Carr and Hannah Alexander connected with back to back doubles. Later in the inning, Hill smacked one up the middle, putting the Pirates up 4-1.

Wagner threatened the Hall’s lead in the top of the 5th when they loaded up the bases, but Lilly Banse grounded into a forceout to shortstop, and Karissa Dupuis preserved the Pirates 4-1 advantage.

Martinez got the party going in the fifth for the Pirates with a triple off the very top of the wall, just missing a homer by a couple inches, but Olivia Gilbert brought her home on a suicide squeeze, and then Gilbert would be brought home via a Taylor Hill RBI double.

Geanice Morales cut the Seton Hall lead to four on an RBI single in the sixth, but Alexander would get the run right back in the bottom half on an RBI single of her own. Martinez followed it up with another RBI single, bringing the Hall’s advantage to 8-2.

Karissa Dupuis finished off her complete game, with only two earned runs conceded, finishing off the sweep of Wagner in the daytime doubleheader.

The Pirates welcome in the Villanova Wildcats on Friday for a three game set, while the Seahawks go to Fairleigh Dickinson for a two game set.
